Weekend Results 15th October

With A and B grade commencing their 2017/18 season the previous week, we had all 7 sides play this week with 2 wins, 4 losses and a tie.

A Grade

A Grade commenced their season with a commanding 69 run win over reigning premiers Macleod away from home. The match was set up by Diamond Creek’s first innings score of 262 with Daniel Taylor (129) and Josh Adams (51) the star contributors. Then with the ball Mick Hansen (2/47), Luke Campitelli (2/49) and debutant Alex McCormick (2/40) calming went about business to dismiss Macleod for 193. Man of the match goes to Daniel Taylor for his scintillating 129, with special mentions to Alex McCormick in his first match and Josh Adams in his first win as captain.

B Grade

B Grade remained undefeated in their second match of the season; however the result was not as intended with the match ending in a tie. DCCC batted first scoring 6/144, thanks to solid contributions by Lachie Davine (39), Mitch Macdonald (36) and a quick fire 23 by Dylan Bedurke. Then with the ball it was a solid performance to bowl out Mernda for 144 however the result should have been a victory with some poor fielding costly. Jarrod Williams claimed career best figures of 4-33, and Dylan Bedurke was also impressive with 2/30. Man of the match goes to

The Thirds

Unfortunately it was a disappointing start from the thirds with a 7 run loss in their opening game. Bowling first at Wattle Glen, Diamond Creek restricted North Eltham to 9/162 with Nick “Noodles” Ireland claiming 4/40. Then in a closely contested run chase we fell agonisingly short with Steven Luff (52) and Geoff Milner (34) the major contributors. At one stage in the chase we were 3/125 needing just 38 to win off the last 10 overs, however we just couldn’t close out the innings. Plenty of positives none the less and as a young side we will be sure to learn from this performance in future games.

The Fourths

The fourths commenced their season at Campbell Street “The Field of Dreams” against Lower Eltham. We batted first and could only manage 9/111 which seemed a little below par. Max Trainor (34), Josh Tassone (23) and Adam “Sheep” McKenzie (19) were the main contributors. Then with the ball we were more than competitive with Lower Eltham chasing our total with three overs to spare. Max Trainor capped off a man of the match performance snaring 2/19.

The Fifths

The “G2 Crew” was no more after promotion to G1, and unfortunately couldn’t continue their winning form from last year with a closely contested round one defeat against Lalor. We bowled first restricting Lalor to 9/187 largely due to the fantastic efforts of Christian Merret whom claimed 5/42 including a hat-trick. “Cappuccino Chris” also claimed 2/30. Then with the bat we were dismissed for 164 falling 23 runs short. Stu Mangin (79) and Fred Pizzichetta (33) were the pick of the batsmen. Man of the match goes to Christian Merrett for his performance with the ball.

The Sixths

A commanding victory for the fifths in their first game of the season against Montmorency. We bowled first restricting Montmorency to 8/103 with Aiden Davies the pick of the bowlers with 3/18. Chris Guy (1/14) and Luke Shallard (1/16) were also impressive. Then we made light work of the chase with the bat largely thanks to Grant Shallard (39) and Luke Davies (38). Aiden Davies also amassed 15* with the bat to claim man of the match honours.

The Sevenths

Unfortunately it was a tough day at the office for the sevenths with a tough defeat against Hurstbridge. Bowling first Hurstbridge made 5/192 with Keenan Carr claiming 3/34. Then with the bat we simply never got going only managing 7/92. Ash Wilson top scored with 31* whilst Keenan Carr rounded out a man of the match performance with 22.
